Over the years I have crocheted many free baby booties with a ribbed cuff pattern.
I was contacted recently asking if I had matching baby booties for my little ribbed baby crochet hat,
The hat is perfect for newborn babies, and the hat is ideal to donate to hospitals.
They loved the stretchiness of the hat pattern which is created by crocheting into the back loops of the previous rows of stitches.
Crochet a Ribbed Cuff for Your Booties
The Ribbed cuffs work completely differently from my other booties ankle cuffs which are all worked in the round!
To make the cuff of the booties you will reach the ankle part and then CHAIN a length of stitches, and now work up and down this length, by working single crochet BACK DOWN the chain just made, slst back into the next 2 stitches of the ankle, list to the next st, and work in the back loops of the previous row sc back up to the top of the stitches.
I am asked all the time IF you can make these booties bigger!
whilst I only have written the booties for the first 0-3 months size, you can make these crocheted booties measurements will help you to make them bigger.
i have added in up until 6- 12 months as Booties are great for babies who are not up on their feet walking and help to keep their feet nice and warm! IF making for a baby who is walking I would strongly recommend using some sort of sole, to reduce the risk of slipping.
For these booties to adjust size Measure from the END of round 3 from TOE to HEEL to ensure your booties will fit the age
Age | Sole Size
Newborn = 3.5 inches
0-3 Months =3.75 inches
3-6 Months = 4.25 inches
6-12 Months = 4.75 inches
NOTES:
- Booties will fit 0-3 months the sole and to check fit measure from toe to heel at Rnd 3, which should measure 3.5 inches
- When you reach the booties SIDES: Pay attention to where to start and finish your rounds. To stop the slip-to-join seam shifting diagonally on each round you will skip working in the base of the chain start the round in the next stitch, and complete the LAST stitch of that round into the previous round slip st to join.
