Easy Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern Free Perfect For Baby

This is an Easy Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern with FREE written instructions to crochet a simple elegant baby blanket, with crochet border.
easy baby blanket crochet pattern free

This crocheted baby blanket may look as though it is difficult to crochet, but it's actually a super simple written crochet pattern.

It is a perfect crochet baby blanket pattern for any level of crochet including beginners.

This is a great crochet project If you want to impress your friends and family and crochet a stunning and unique BABY BLANKET.

This crocheted baby blanket is going to be used as a PRAM blanket.

So I wanted something that would make an interesting pattern when worked up!

But be big enough to fold over at least twice to keep baby warm and cozy whilst out and about.

It is crocheted using basic stitches in the more commonly known crochet MOSS, Linen STITCH.

This simple baby blanket crochet pattern creates a beautifully textured blanket that's perfect for keeping your little one cozy in the pram or stroller.

I get orders to make this baby blanket as a new baby gift all the time

Is this Baby Blanket Beginner Friendly?

This baby blanket is made using an easy crochet pattern
The basic baby blanket pattern and stitch combo (sc, ch1, skip 1)  is such a forgiving crochet stitch combo for beginners at crochet who are still trying to get to grips with their tension.

The combination of the easy crochet stitches, the single crochet (sc), and chain1 (ch1) space, lets you relax and get into a gentle rhythm for crocheting a baby blanket.

Can you use other stitches to crochet this baby blanket?

I have also changed the stitches I have used, and replaced them with half double crochet, ch1. This will make a slightly lacy stitch, and Double crochet will create a lightweight lacy baby blanket.

Quick and Easy: This baby blanket works up fast, making it a great project for busy crocheters.
Customizable: Choose any yarn color you like to match your style or the nursery decor.
Ideal Crochet Project to have on the side as Baby blankets are small projects, so you’ll have a finished item in no time.

Feel free to experiment with different colors and yarn types to customize your blanket to your liking!

I love to create crochet patterns that no matter what type of yarn or hook size you have you can crochet the project.

What is the best size for a Crochet Baby Blanket?
I usually make my Baby Blankets around 30x30 Square

Or for this project, the typical size for a pram blanket is around 24 inches by 30 inches (61 cm by 76 cm) or slightly larger.
The size of a pram blanket can vary depending on personal preference and the size of the pram or stroller it's intended for.
This size provides enough coverage while being used in the pram or stroller without being too bulky or overwhelming.

What is the Best Yarn to use for a baby blanket?

I prefer to use Baby Douve knit and depending on the Pattern I often find I will use 2 Strands of yarn held together.

The reason I do this is I find the best Baby Yarns are usually in 4ply OR double knit (light Worsted) .

The baby blankets I crochet are usually requested by moms who wish to use it as a car seat blanket or a pram blanket.
And I feel the 2 strands worked together to make a lovely squishy cosy crochet baby blanket.

Baby Blanket Pattern Starts HERE

This simple crochet pram blanket pattern is written in US TERMS using the crochet abbreviations as follows

sc - single crochet
Ch - Chain
Ch1 - Chain 1
Repeat from * to * - repeat at is in first * to the LAST * across the row.

Can you make this baby blanket bigger or Smaller?
You can adjust the size of the blanket according to your needs and preferences. Or if it's a custom order.
Some may prefer smaller of larger blankets.

You can make the baby blanket bigger or wider by adding more chains to the foundation chain until the desired length is achieved, and work as many rows back and forth in the simple repeat crochet pattern until the desired height is achieved

Row 2:  Ch 1, sc in the first sc, *sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, skip the next sc; repeat from the * across, ending with sc in the next ch-1 sp, sc in the last sc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first sc, "ch 1, skip the next sc, sc in the next ch-1 sp; repeat from the * across, ending with ch 1, skip the next Sc, sc in the last sc, turn.

Example of The first FEW ROWS and START /END stitches

NOTES: Gauge is not important as I give sizes to be achieved when crocheting so all you really need is a TAPE measure.

If you are confident crocheter make the FIRST row into the Back Ridge of the Starting Chain stitches.

How do you work the FIRST row of single crochet INTO the Back hump of the chain?

Back Bump (Back Hump /Back Ridge of Foundation /starting chain):
Chain the length required flip the chain over to the back or wrong side. Locate  the loop bump running down the middle of each chain. This is the back bump.
This is where you will WORK your beginning rows stitches.

Using 1 size larger crochet hook, Start by making a chain (ch) in multiples of any even number to achieve your desired width. (WIDTH I wanted was 24 inches)

*Make your Beginning Ch1 Turn stitch LOOSLEY. You need to be able to work that LAST sc of the Rows into this Ch1 space at the beginning/ end of ROWS.

Row 1: Single crochet (sc) into the second chain from the hook. making a single crochet into the last, st (74 sts)

Row 2:skip the first st, Single crochet (sc) in the first stitch. *Chain one (ch1), skip the next single crochet (sc), and single crochet (sc) in the next st,* Repeat from * to * across the row, ending with a single crochet (sc) in the last stitch.
This creates your first row of the pattern and now you are simply working single crochet, chain 1, into EACH of the chain of the previous row 1 space.

ROW 3: Ch 1 and turn. In the 1st ch1 space of the previous row, SC, Ch 1, skip 1st, * Repeat from * to * across row until the last Ch1 space. SC in the last space (which is the space between the last SC and the turning chain from the previous row Ch1 space created).

Repeat Row 3 until your blanket reaches your desired length, (approx 30 inches in length). Once you've reached your desired length, fasten off the yarn and weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle.

If you want and border DO not fasten off you can create the border by working HDC around the whole blanket - making hdc, ch1,hdc in each CORNER and continue reading for the BORDER.

Optionally, you want to add a border around the entire blanket to give it a finished look.

You can do this by single crocheting into the BACK LOOPS evenly around the edges, making sure to work 3 extra single crochet stitches in the corners to prevent bunching.

BORDER ROW (s): you can now work in the Camel Stitch (the 3rd hidden loop of the HDC) Again work hdc, ch1,hdc in each CORNER to help it lay flat.

Or finishing border for beginners, in each stitch around single crochet or HDC in each stitch around working in the BACK LOOPS around, Slip stitch to join, Repeat until you have built a border to your liking.

I crocheted 4 FULL ROUNDS of the blanket in camel stitch (working into the 3rd loops of the half double crochet)
