I've made a plushy turtle and a small turtle keyring using Double knit yarn! I have also included photos of the pieces as you make them.
I'm slowly making my way through all the crochet project ideas that I wanted to design for my grandson. I have been creating a lot of Crochet Farm Animal Toy Patterns which he loves, but slowly creeping up is his love for Crochet Sea Creatures.
We already have a Large Crocheted Shark Pattern, a crochet axolotl Crochet Jelly Fish, a Small Crochet Whale, a Small Crochet Shark, and an Orca, so after watching his favorite film, Nemo, he wanted an amigurumi Turtle to add to his collection
Can I use Different Colours for the Turtle?
Absolutely! The beauty of crochet is that it’s highly customizable. You can use different colors for your turtle, creating unique looks I just used some Leftover yarn I had bought for another project.
The pattern will work the same way regardless of the colors you choose. It could be a fun way to personalize your project or use up leftover yarn from other projects.
Just make sure to have enough of each color you plan to use before you start. ( I would recommend a minimum of 50 grams in total for the turtle.
Can I use a bigger or Smaller Hook?
YES! I have made a keyring with this crochet turtle pattern using Double Knit yarn and a 3.00 mm hook and the Amigurumi method of Single crochet Yarn (Which pulls your stitches tighter together to stop the stuffing from showing through.)
How to work Yarn Under for NO HOLES in your amigurumi
YARN UNDER: make your single crochet stitch to start as Usual however instead of Yarn Over the hook to pull through to finish the single crochet stitch, simply pull the yarn through the hook.
NO holes Decrease: To ensure you do not have gaps or holes where you are decreasing, work the invisible Decreace simply work the 2 single crochet through the FRONT LOOPS of the stitches, yarn under, and pull through!
The Pattern is written in an easy-to-understand amigurumi style, you Do NOT join the Rounds, but use a marker at the END of each round to help keep track of where you are in the turtle pattern
Materials you will need TO Crochet This Turtle
- YARN - I used a Chunky Yarn I had from Aldi UK and a 6.00mm hook you can use any yarn you wish, and adjust your hook
- I also made the turtle in worsted weight (Double Knit Yarn ) using a 3.00 mm hook
- HOOK - I found using a smaller than recommended hook size for the yarn means nice tight sts combined with using the yarn under method.
- Stuffing
- safety eyes - or you can embroider the eyes on
