Free Head Band and ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

Crochet headband Free Pattern

Nothing keeps out the cold better, and keeps our ears toasties and warm, than these easy to crochet headbands and ear warmers. Very easy to crochet and a great quick gift idea. I wear my ear warmers all the time during the colder months.

My daughter refused to wear a hat BUT loves wearing these headbands as they are ever so fashionable

The pattern for the headband in the picture is very easy By working in back loops throughout the rows creates a ridge pattern. You can also make it as wide as you wish. Or by measuring around your head you can make it any size you wish

This headband is open at the back and connected with big buttons so it was adjustable for both my daughter to wear and Me...lol

Headband crochet pattern worked in BACK loops only for the ridged effect,
I used a Aran weight yarn with a 4.5mm hook.

chain 6
Row1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and each ch across, turn  (5 sts)
Rows 2 - 8: ch1, sc in each stitch, turn (5 sts)
Row 9: ch1, 2 sc in 1st st, sc to last st, 2sc in last stitch, turn (7 sts)
Row 10- 14: ch1, sc in each stitch, turn (7sts)
Row 15: ch1, ch1, 2 sc in 1st st, sc to last st, 2sc in the last stitch, turn ( 9sts)
Rows 16-20: ch1, sc in each stitch, turn  (9sts)
Rows 21:  ch1, [2sc,sc] , [repeat ] to end  (14sts)
Rows 22-60: ch1, sc in each stitch, turn (14sts)
Row 61 : ch1, [sc2tog,sc], [repeat] in each stitch across,  (9 sts)
Rows 62-65: sc in each stitch, turn (9sts) ( OR until the desired length is achieved)
Row 66:  2sc tog in first 2sts, sc to last 2 sts, and 2sc tog in last (7 sts)
Row 67-71: ch1, sc in each st, turn, (7sts)
Row 72: ch1,  2sctog, in first 2 sts, sc to last 2 sts, 2 sc tog (5 sts)
Row 73- 83: sc in each stitch (5sts)
At this point, you can add or take away extra rows here until ends overlap by 2 rows when wrapped around your head, or the circumference your making for is reached and then continue with the pattern

To create buttonhole
Buttonhole:
Ch1, sc in first 2 sts, ch1, skip next st, sc in next 2 sts, turn
next row: work 2 more rows in sc in each stitch including the skipped stitch for 2 rows.
if you would like a 2 button fastening just repeat the about steps.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
