This is a free written pattern for an easy crochet baby hat. This is a beanie-type crochet hat, and since the single crochet stitch is a nice close crochet stitch it also makes a suitable hat to crochet for a newborn baby.

This little crochet is also perfect for crocheting hats for hospitals, and donating to maternity wards, (just ensure all ends are neatly weaved in and NO buttons etc.
This is an ideal crochet project for beginners who want to get into crochet baby hats, a great way to learn as you go, and see how the increase helps make the shape of the baby hats.
It is worked in the Round so no messy join line at the back is usually created by hats worked in the round and joined, And the inside of the hat is very neat and soft especially important for a newborn's head.
Baby DK
Rnd 1: Create 10sc in Magic loop, (OR CH 3, slip to join and work 10sc into the loop) Do Not Join
Rnd 2: 2 SC in ea SC. (20Sc)
Add a marker to your beginning stitch.
Rnd 3: 1 SC in ea SC. (20Sc)
Rnd 4: 1 SC in next ST, 2 SC in next ST. (30Sc)
Rnd 5: 1 SC in ea SC around. (30Sc)
Rnd 6: 1 SC in next 2 Sts, 2 SC in next St. (40Sc)
Rnd 7: SC in ea SC around. (40Sc)
Rnd 8: 1 SC in next 3 Sts, 2 SC in next St (50Sc)
Rnd 9: SC in ea ST around. (50Sc)
Rnd 10: 1 SC in next 4 Sts, 2 SC in next St. (60Sc)
Rnd 11-18: SC in EA SC around or until you get the length of your cap.
In the picture, I Slipped the stitch LOOSELY into the BACK LOOP of the next stitch to create the edging, for the last 4 rounds to create the border.
How to Crochet a BOW EASY:
Chain 20
Chain 1 turn
Slip stitch into top of each chain st (6 rounds, to create a rectangle shape. )
Finish off by leaving a long tail, use this to attach to the baby hat, and pull in the middle!
(I had never made this before and kind of just thought a bow would suit the color of the hat)

Use a larger size hook and or yarn to make the cap for a larger size child. Or a smaller hook and lighter Yarn to make it even smaller Using the handy hat measurement table on this page. Once you make one it then becomes easier to work out how to make this bigger, increasing to suit different sizes!
