FREE Crochet Baby Hat Pattern with Earflaps. My own grandson lived in his crochet hats all winter.
As it starts to get chilly around the change of the season neared the end of the yeat year when we are starting to think about head coverings of the little ones.
I am always looking for baby hat patterns with earflaps for babies. To help keep them snuggly and warm.
This is a very easy baby hat to make ideal for beginners and crochets up very quickly in no time at all.
This is an easy-to-follow crochet pattern, and it's a good start for beginners as it's also a great pattern for first-time baby hat makers, especially if you have always wondered how to make a baby hat with ear flaps!
The Finished Baby Hat Will fit from 14 to 16 inches

Hook – 4.5mm
Stitches used
ch - chain
st(s) – stitch
ss - slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sc2 tog – decrease single crochet
dc2 tog – decrease double crochet
chain 3 is not counted as a stitch,
chain 3 is not counted as a stitch,
Pattern for Baby Hat with Earflaps:
Ch 4
Row 1: 12dc in 4th ch from hook, join with slipping into 3rd ch of start. (12 sts)
Row 2: Ch 3, *2dc in each st* , repeat ** around, dc in ss space, join using ss to top of ch3. (24sts)
Row 3: Ch 3, *2dc in next st, stitch, dc in next st*, repeat * * around, join with ss into top ch 3. (36sts)
Row 4: Ch 3, *2dc in next stitch, dc in next 2sts*, repeat * * around, join with ss to top of ch 3 (48sts)
Rows 5 to Rows 10: Ch 3, dc in each stitch around, join using ss to top of ch3.
Earflaps
ch 3, dc in next 14 sts, turn, ch 3,
*dc in next 9 sts, ch2, turn,
dec by working dc2tog in the very first 2 sts,
dc to last 2sts , dc2tog, ch2 turn,
dc2tog, first 2 sts, dc in next 4 sts,
dec dc in last 2 sts, ch1, work sc evenly along the bottom,
and sc up the side of ear flap,*.
Working in row 10
dc in next 15 sts, mark here as the beginning of earflap, with a stitch marker, work second ear flap from * to * , join using ss on top of sc, ch1. (Don’t turn)
Edging – sc around join using ss on top of 1st sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Optional: Make a small pompom and attach on top of hat.
How to make the Crochet Braids:
Cut several lengths of yarn – to the desired length of what length you want the braids to be. (When making please remember shorter ones for baby and the potential risks of ties)Take loop, through the middle of the bottom of earflap and pull through another end of lengths,
pull to secure and braid.
