Double winged Crochet Butterfly This is a simple easy written crochet butterfly pattern. I made this adorable crochet 3d butterfly pattern by mistake (I won't call it a mistake as it turned out a beautiful almost 3d butterfly with double wings. |
As you probably I have been on a mission recently for a huge project made with crochet flowers, and one night as I was packing up my work and I folded over a crochet flower I had been working on, I got up and looked back and the way the flower was lying looked like a beautiful Butterfly.

The Basic Easy Crochet Butterfly Pattern
You will need a small amount of yarn in 3 different colors , for the crochet butterfly in the pictures I used a 3.500mm hook
The butterfly measures 4.5 inches across the top wing to wing. of course, you can use ANY yarn and hook if making to add as an applique to an item of clothing, or crochet bag.
TrC = Treble crochet
TO START THE BUTTERFLY: Chain 5, slip to join into a circle. to make a ring (or work Rnd 1 into a magic circle
Rnd1: make 3TrC into the ring, (ch5 counts as first TrC) *chain 2, make 3TrC in the ring*, repeat from * to * 6 more times ( 8 groups of 3TrC with 2 chains in between each), ch2 and slip stitch to the 4th chain at the start to join.
Change colour HERE by joining in any 2 chain space from round one
Rnd 2: Ch3, (counts as first TrC), and work a further 2TrC into the same 2 chain space, ch 2, make three dc in the same space, skip to next 2 chain space and in this space make *3TrC, ch2,3TrC *, repeat from * to ** in every 2 chain space around, join with a slip stitch, fasten off.
Change color by joining in any 2 chain space from round one
Rnd3: Make 4ch, and work 5 TrC in same space, ch 2, then make 6TrC into the same space as the first 6, *slip stitch in the space between the two sets of 3TrC from round two, in the next ch2 space make (6TrC ch2, 6TrC )* repeat from * to * all the way around, slip stitch in the final space then slip stitch in the first dc that you made in this round. Fasten off.
Weave in ends
Fold in half.
In chosen color for the body (I used Black here)
Chain 20 to make the body of the butterfly, snipping the ends off near to the knots, (these will be the antennas) wrap it around the butterfly wings and tie a knot at the top to form the two antennae. Secure with a stitch or two.
