Crochet Baby Ribbed Puff Stitch Hat with Earflaps Pattern 0-3 months

Since my grandson has been born I have been obsessed with crocheting for him. We Live in Scotland and much as it is beautiful it is freezing. Having a crochet hat is mandatory headwear.

crochet baby ribbed hat pattern free earflaps

I was surprised by the reception these infant crochet hats have received. People have just loved to see the wee one all adorned in his crochet outfits. I do believe there is nothing sweeter than a newborn in crocheted items. All cosied up in their prams out for a brisk walk in the fresh air.

This is the next size up in the Puff Stitch ribbed Baby earflap hat pattern.

I have recently welcomed a little grandson into the world who has blown every sizing chart I had out the water!

So I have written some new newborn baby infant crochet hat patterns and released them on the website for FREE, but you can also

12 point Star Baby Blanket Pattern

Crochet blanket patterns that are suitable for little boys are actually quite rare to come by and I have been searching far and wide for something to make.

I was considering just winging it and picking a stitch from my favourite book which has over 200 stitch patterns each one beautiful and unique to make a baby blanket with.  I Love this book it has lovely stitch patterns, afghan blocks, and lovely border patterns meaning you can mix and match and make endless unique crocheted blankets.

baby blanket crochet patterns As I was looking online I found this rather colourful circular 12 point star afghan/blanket pattern and thought it would look fantastic in the chosen colours of Greys that the mum to be had chosen.

I  suppose until we see something made we wonder how it looks so I carried on.

(Please note this is NOT an actual pattern.)This is how I took several patterns I found online and tailored them to make Princess Poppy Troll. Diamond Crochet Blanket ( Ultimate scrap-ghan Project)

The Ultimate Scrap Yarn Bursting Blanket Pattern.

scrap yarn blanket crochet pattern

I actually started crocheting these diamonds one night, by sheer accident. But I soon realized I could use up all those little odds and ends of yarn, you know the little balls of leftover yarn that are too large to throw away yet not small enough to crochet any one particular thing.

This is one of these projects I have at the side and when I just want to mindlessly crochet for the sake of crocheting something, not needing too big a project, but just keep those hands busy.... ( yup we've all been there) what's great about this is, I never get bored sometimes even when I am working another project and get to the end of it, I see I have enough yarn left and quickly whip up another diamond piece. Any color, the only thing I do need to watch out for is the difference in yarn weight. If it is thicker I go down a hook or finer I go up a hook, but I mostly work in double knit or Aran so it's not too much of a problem.
Probably like a LOT of us, yarn-holics, I have boxes of small balls of yarn just sitting around in bags collecting dust. You know those ones you think you may need one day yet your yarn stash is just getting bigger and bigger.
I refuse point blank to throw away good yarn, so I wanted something I could make using these odds and ends of wool. BUT some of the leftover bits of yarn were not long enough for even an individual row to make a blanket, not even big enough to perhaps make into squares, so I wanted something that still would look attractive yet not all half-finished rows and join.
So Let me introduce the Diamond Crochet Blanket, perfectly symmetrical in its formation easy to make by simply increasing and then decreasing at the ends of your rows, this is an awesome way to use up those small scraps of yarn and those odds and ends that are just not enough to throw away, yet not big enough for another project.

Looks like Knit But its Crochet Warm Cosy Winter Hat (FREE Pattern)

Free Crochet Hat Pattern A Beautiful Cosy Crochet Hat with this FREE Pattern. Crochet a KNIT look hat, that is both stylish yet warm.
knit look crochet hat pattern free big chunky croche that pattern

Being Warm at this time of year is essential. I find a lot of the basic crochet hats quite drafty.

Here in the NORTH of Scotland winds are strong and it's chilly.

SO I am always looking for a good thick warm hat. The Double Thick brim ensures ears are kept snug

It makes it even better when it's a fast, easy crochet pattern.

Worked in Rows, using the amazing 3rd loop stitch of the HDC. and working either Into the Front diagonal loop or working into the Back of the 3rd loop.

For help identifying the 3rd loop look just under what we would normally call the front and back loops that make our V.

After working a normal HDC row, turn your work and You will see the Diagonal Bar.

Highlighted HERE in the picture below with the hook going THROUGH the diagonal bar

front loop half double crochet

THIS is the 3rd stitch/loop/bar of the HDC.

This is where we will be working when creating the front HDC stitch.

When working the BACK Half double crochet, we want to insert our hook and pull this diagonal 3rd bar to the BACK of the work to complete our HDC .
(we are  pushing the front and back loop V to the front of our work)

Working in this manner makes a beautiful KNIT 2, purl 1 effect,
and makes this hat look like it's been knitted.  But It's definitely a crocheted hat.

For more explanations of how we will work these stitches also Please watch the videos below.

Lisa's Warm Cosy (Not Knit) Crochet Hat Pattern

Skill Level: You must be able to work in back loops and Camel Stitch
(working into 3rd hidden stitch of HDC)

On 1 row you will work into the FRONT diagonal loop facing you
on the 2nd row, you will work into the BACK/behind of the diagonal loop.

Watch these 2 videos for a further explanation of working in the 3rd loop
For the purpose of this pattern, I will call this the

Front HDC 3rd loop = Fhdc3rd loop

And working the opposite row for the hat

Back HDC 3rd loop - Bhdc 3rd loop

You can Make all Sizes of the hat  if you have head measurements. you can manipulate the numbers of each stitch worked to have more of the knit look in the middle of the hat.

Materials:
Special Stitches:
For the purposes of THIS pattern.

Front HDC 3rd loop - Fhdc3rd loop
Back HDC 3rd loop - Bhdc 3rd loop

Notes: It's very easy to make this hat in ANY size you wish.

Hat Height from top of crown to bottom of the ear – this will be your foundation chain.

How many Stitches You HAVE in TOTAL will depend on how long you wish your hat.

If you want a Big Turn up like mine then remember to include THAT measurement when you measure from the top of the crown to under the ear and then fold UP measuring tape until you have the BRIM size you want.

Measure head around just above the ears. Circumference of head.

This will be how LONG you work your rows Back and Forward until the circumference measurement is reached.

Working in ROWS and back loops of slip and single crochet, and working into the 3rd loop of HDC.

SC - Single crochet
HDC - half double crochet
slst- slip stitch
Front HDC 3rd loop - Fhdc3rd loop
Back HDC 3rd loop - Bhdc 3rd loop
