Tartan Crochet Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

I have so many half finished projects lying around , I have decided to post on the blog about them and perhaps that will motivate me to get them finished. First up is what I think will become my crochet Nemesis.

When I first saw the Highland Afghan Pattern. I just knew I had to make this in our families Tartan. The Royal Stewart. I read through the pattern and wasnt swayed by the amount of panels you would need...however I soon realized as I completed a few of the panels I could just make one huge striped panel (i.e. add all panel starting chains together = total needed) This cuts out having to join the panels together. However you need to use the panel dimensions for later on when you are weaving up and down the blanket to achieve the plaid effect.

A Unique crochet Baby Blanket, with beautiful crochet stitches, finished with an easy crochet decorative border.   This baby blanket will become a family heirloom for all the future babies within the family.

I was looking for a baby blanket pattern that looked impressive yet would be easy and quick to make. I hunted all over and whilst I found several beautiful crocheted baby blanket patterns, none just seemed right for the recipient. I wanted a really unique crochet pattern.

Eventually, I stumbled on a crochet pattern design ( not an actual pattern) that looked delicate and would create a nice lacy textured blanket.

In today's modern world more a stroller or car seat-sized blanket, yet could be used for those glorious days when out and about with a pram.

But the beauty of this pattern stitch is that you can just keep repeating the established pattern which is worked from the center out (think granny square but with shells and chain stitches)

for the baby set and blanket, I used the beautiful Snuggly Sirdar 4 ply ( 2 x 100grms for the blanket...with a little leftover, which actually made the booties ( I cannot get over how beautiful this yarn works up for baby items-
I made this blanket using Sidar Snuggly I am a HUGE fan of this yarn SIDAR SNUGGLY 4 PLY Cream

I was asked to crochet a doll for my niece who got a gorgeous pram for Christmas, I had never made a doll before, never mind know how to crochet one!  SO I set off to look for the cutest free crochet doll patterns I could find. I felt I was confident enough at amigurumi to be able to figure a basic crochet doll pattern out. And was willing to try.
To my utter delight I have found LOTS of FREE crochet Doll Patterns online so although I took a bit from one pattern, another bit from another, I will include on this page the best free patterns I found for crocheting a doll.

FREE Crochet Cardigan Pattern (3-6 months)

I was asked if I would consider making a bigger pattern for the popular Baby Bear Newborn Cardigan. Probably it is such a popular crochet baby cardigan pattern because its so easy.
The readers request was to use Double Knit Yarn and a 3.5mm hook. to make a simple baby cardigan, suitable for a boy or a girl.  T\he simple method of working top-down means it is a very beginner friendly introduction to making baby clothes. I honestly do not make cardigans or sweaters any other way now.

Of course designing a whole new sized item takes time, lots of trials and errors, and a few times ripping it out. My designing process is not really straightforward, I work backward from finished measurements. I am sure there is an easier way however I like to fiddle around and, well basically just do it my way. Eventually I have now worked out the perfect finished size for a 3- 6 month old baby. AND more importantly a simple straightforward pattern.

Free Crochet Patterns for Babies Cardigan and Blanket Set (The Perfect Crochet Set for a Boy or Girl)

Babies, babies, and even more babies...It seems my whole family is expecting! And means I get to look at adorable crochet patterns for babies....Woo woo its just great news for me as I get to indulge in my most favorite pastime. Crocheting newborn baby items.
As you probably know by now I have taken a slight step back from producing and writing my own patterns (wondering what on earth I am talking about you can read my story here (Where Have I Been)

Anyway once I had completed the bigger projects for my aunt and uncle I was bought several balls of yarn (Blue and Cream) for the babies we are expecting within the family.
One is definitely a boy...lol the scan showed it clear as day hence the blue yarn.

The other little one will be a wonderful surprise. Hence  the Cream. Sidar Snuggly It is so soft and snugly it makes me feel all yummy inside. Working with it is like being in heaven surrounded by little fluffy clouds (I know  overboard description but it IS awesome)

FREE Vintage Crochet Shawl Pattern Easy

My great aunt came to visit us, she is 95 and every year she says this is my last year.... she just gets on a PLANE and fly's up to Scotland for her weeks holiday. She really is amazing, I wanted to make her something special for her birthday as it fell on her visit,
I found this beautiful vintage antique pattern and thought how awesome it would be to make it for my Aunt.
crochet, free pattern, shawl, baby blanket, lap blanket, vintage crochet patterns, easy crochet patternsThe shawl can be used as a lap blanket or a shawl, the stitches mean it is not a heavy piece, and sits snugly onto my aunt making her feel very cosy but not too suffocated as some of the more modern blankets make her feel, and obviously still able to move her hands and arms freely whilst keeping her neck and top of her shoulders warm. This would also make a gorgeous christening blanket for a new baby.

A FREE Easy Dishcloth Patten
Very Easy Quick, long-lasting cotton crochet cloth with loop. I love the crochet dishcloths I have, but they were getting old, and much as I have found some awesome dishcloth patterns to make I had lovely green cotton perfect for the job and would suit my kitchen colors.
I wanted something that was robust and would make easy work of the dishes ( I do not have a dishwasher...well if I include my daughter and hubby I am very fortunate to have 2 wonderful dishwashers, however, I put in another space for a second fridge instead of a space for a dishwasher ...sorry hubby :)
The mitered effect of this dishcloth is actually really easy and achieved by working in the back loops of each stitch and increasing single crochet at the center of your work in Every ROW.
The crocheted ring is made at the beginning of the piece making it easy to make and makes it easy to hang up to dry.
Please do not be deceived at the fancy texture this dishcloth is, I would even be suggesting this dishcloth crochet pattern to a beginner who can single crochet and follow a simple pattern could make this.
You could just keep working and make this as big as you want, perhaps for a large hand towel
I can make this from start to finish in under an hour!

I used a 4.00mm hook
25 gram ball of Cotton Lime Green
