It is So Easy to crochet this baby blanket as it is an easy-to-remember crochet stitch pattern repeat not only making it an impressive baby blanket go-to pattern but also Perfect for  Beginners.

I am so excited for a dear friend who is expecting their first baby. That I just knew I had to crochet her and her baby a unique crochet blanket.

After a few heartbreaking years and lots of trying she is finally going to be a mum.

So I was asked to create a special cozy crochet blanket for the new arrival.

She had asked me for a large baby blanket that could also be used as a crochet baby shawl.

This is crochet blanket is actually a pretty BIG baby blanket. However, it is an easy repetitive stitch and actually works up in no time.

After trying out several multiple stitches worked together, getting so far and then not liking the texture or look of the blanket.

Finally, I settled on the effect created by working sc/2dc in the same stitch it looked perfect in the white yarn and I loved how quickly a nice soft blanket started to develop. The texture reminds me of fluffy little white clouds.

This crochet stitch combination is really soft and warm.

This is a great pattern for working on whilst watching your favorite TV show as the repetition is so easy.

Beginners, please do not be put off by how impressive this blanket is as it's the perfect project for a beginner too.

Materials:

4.500mm hook and a 5.00 mm hook for the starting chain to ensure it is Loosley crocheted.

Pattern written in US terms (I am from the UK but prefer US terms)

I used Double Knit /light worsted in White, (11 balls of 100grms)

This blanket could also fit over a single bed as a cover.

However, you CAN use any type of yarn and crochet hook size you wish by following the instructions on how to make the blanket any size you wish Pattern is written in US Terms.

The starting Chain is worked in multiples of 3 + 2

The pattern stitch is: sc/2dc in the same stitch

PLEASE NOTE: TO MAKE THE BLANKET ANY SIZE YOU WANT

Crochet a starting chain to the size you need, make sure you can divide the total amount of chains by 3, then add 2 more chains and follow the pattern below from row 1.

Start Blanket with  a 5.00mm hook

Chain 161 (very loosely, or consider starting with a bigger hook) (This made my blanket 45 inches WIDE) Remember your tension may be different from mine, you may need to go up a hook or down a hook size, OR change your starting chain as long as you have a Multiple of 3 + 2

Change here to a 4.50mm hook and continue using it for the rest of the blanket

Row 1:  (1sc, 2dc) in 2nd ch from hook, * skip 2ch's, (1sc, 2dc) in next ch, * rpt from * * to last 3ch's, skip 2ch's, 1sc in last ch. Turn. (53 shells)

Row 2: ch1, {1sc, 2dc} in base of ch1, * skip 2dc, {1sc, 2dc} in next sc,* rpt from * * to last 2dc and sc, skip 2dc, 1sc in last stitch. Turn.

Repeat Row 2 from here on in until you have reached the desired length.

DO NOT Break Yarn and continue working into the border.

Crochet Border Blanket Pattern:

Rnd 1: ch3, and DC evenly along all 4 sides of the blanket,  making 3DCs in each corner.

slip stitch to join into top of ch3 at start of the round.

(we will thread the ribbon through this round.)

Rnd 2: ch4 (counts as dc + 1 ), dc all in the base of chain4. skip next 2 sts, {work dc,ch1, dc} = v stitch made.

Continue Round by working, skip next 2 sts, {work dc,ch1, dc}, slip into the middle ch1 of first v stitch you made, at the corners DO NOT skip any stitches.....{work dc,ch1, dc} in each of the 3 double crochets of previous rounds

 ch3 (counts as hdc), 2dc in SAME space, chain 3, slip stitch into 1st chain of chain 3 (picot made) 2dc, hdc, - all in v of the previous round. work 1 single crochet in next V of previous rounds.

continue working  *hdc, 2dc, ch3 slip into the first chain (picot made), 2dc, hdc in previous rounds V stitch, single crochet in NEXT V*, work * * around.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

A Unique crochet Baby Blanket, with beautiful crochet stitches, finished with an easy crochet decorative border.   This baby blanket will become a family heirloom for all the future babies within the family.

I was looking for a baby blanket pattern that looked impressive yet would be easy and quick to make. I hunted all over and whilst I found several beautiful crocheted baby blanket patterns, none just seemed right for the recipient. I wanted a really unique crochet pattern.

Eventually, I stumbled on a crochet pattern design ( not an actual pattern) that looked delicate and would create a nice lacy textured blanket.

In today's modern world more a stroller or car seat-sized blanket, yet could be used for those glorious days when out and about with a pram.

But the beauty of this pattern stitch is that you can just keep repeating the established pattern which is worked from the center out (think granny square but with shells and chain stitches)

for the baby set and blanket, I used the beautiful Snuggly Sirdar 4 ply ( 2 x 100grms for the blanket...with a little leftover, which actually made the booties ( I cannot get over how beautiful this yarn works up for baby items-

12 point Star Baby Blanket Pattern

Crochet blanket patterns that are suitable for little boys are actually quite rare to come by and I have been searching far and wide for something to make.

I was considering just winging it and picking a stitch from my favourite book which has over 200 stitch patterns each one beautiful and unique to make a baby blanket with.  I Love this book it has lovely stitch patterns, afghan blocks, and lovely border patterns meaning you can mix and match and make endless unique crocheted blankets.

baby blanket crochet patterns As I was looking online I found this rather colourful circular 12 point star afghan/blanket pattern and thought it would look fantastic in the chosen colours of Greys that the mum to be had chosen.

I  suppose until we see something made we wonder how it looks so I carried on.

Terms and pattern written in US terms.

Ch102 (Pram/car seat sized Blanket)

Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook (1sc, 2dc in next ch) *[skip 2ch, 1sc 2dc in next ch]*, repeat from * to * until you reach the last 3ch, skip 2ch, 1sc in the last ch, turn.

repeat * to* until last 2 stitches, skip 2dc, 1sc in top of turning ch.

How to Crochet The Star Stitch and Crochet a Warm Cosy Blanket

I came across a pattern for a baby blanket using the "star stitch" not only had I never heard of this crochet stitch before, but I had never tried it. SO I taught myself a new stitch.
The star stitch is also known (as I have since found out and hence probably why I haven't heard of it before) the Margarite stitch, daisy stitch, and star stitch.

Very easy to pick up and not only makes a beautiful stitch and pattern, it is lovely to work,

FREE Crochet Pattern-Baby Blanket-Textured crrochet stitches-Balnket Pattern with the Corner to Corner Stitch Free baby blanket Crochet Pattern. Beautiful Textured Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern with the Corner to Corner Stitch. If you are looking for a Beautiful Textured Crochet Blanket Pattern, to create a vintage looking pram or cot blanket then why not try the very easy Corner to Corner Stitch. The Diagonal blocks make a stunning effect.
I made this pram blanket for a friend and it was my first attempt at the C2C. I found I need the WRitten Pattern for the C2C but I have also included a handy video from @The Crochet Crowd.
 If like me you get a bit bored with bigger projects, this is perfect. As when you get halfway you start decreasing the stitches and before you know it your finished the blanket.

Please READ through all this pattern before commencing. I have tried to write it out so it is easy if this is your first attempt at a Corner to Corner.

Once you master the sides, and making the first blocks of the rows then the rest whips up really easily. Watch the video to see how to do this easy diagonal stitch.

To make my Vintage Style Baby Blanket
I followed this Corner to Corner pattern here (I chose 1 main color,)

FREE written Crochet Pattern for the Corner to Corner stitch
I used a 4.00mm hook 4 x 100 gram balls of Double Knit Yarn = worsted)

ch 6.
Row 1 (Right Side):
Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch
turn {1 block made}
Row 2:
Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, (slip st, ch 3, 3 dc) all in ch-3 space of previous row
turn {2 blocks made}

Row 3:
Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, [(slip st, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next ch-3 space of previous row] twice; turn  {3 blocks made}
Row 4:
Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 ch, [(slip st, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next ch-3 space of previous row]3 times turn  {4 blocks made}.
Continue working like this, 5 blocks, 6 blocks, 7 blocks......keep increasing 1 block on each row until there are 34 blocks across (or as WIDE as you want the blanket to be)

free crochet patterns-baby blanket-baby crochet patterns

When you have reached your desired length. to make rectangle you are ONLY going to increase on one side this is to make the width now stay the same and the length grow.
Continue working with increasing 1 block ONLY on one side. At the width side we are not increasing, continue Increasing Right Side of Work by working the 6 chain. combination.
when we get to the end of the round we will slip st across first 3 dc, {(slip st, ch 3, 3 dc) =DECREASE} all in next ch-3 space of previous row;
work in blocks along to the end of work.

Continue making increase until your happy with your length (I made 42 blocks length wise for Pram Blanket in Picture)
Now work in
decreasing
rows as follows: slip st across first 3 dc, * (slip st, ch 3,3 dc) all in next ch-3 space of previous row; repeat from *to last ch-3 space; slip st in last space;
turn
do NOT make any further blocks WORKING (slip stitch, chains 3dc) at EACH ends from now on,

The work now get easier as you are decreasing at both sides now until
1 block remains.
Fasten off.

Border:
You can choose any border you like to finish off this blanket,
Round 1
Join Yarn and Chain3.
I worked in Double Crochet around the full width and length with 3DC in each corner. So I could thread Ribbon through the blanket.
And the last round was
(SC, Dc in same stitch Chain3, skip 1) continue working this around, Fasten off and finish blanket
As it is a Pram Blanket I like to wash first and block.
then with Ribbon by threading through the posts of every second DC of previous round.
