Free Crochet Blanket Pattern | BIG Boys Crochet Blanket

This crochet blanket is so Easy to make and is perfect for those wanting extra warmth but without the weight and bulkiness of many blankets out there, MY Uncle, who is disabled, and finds himself needing a little extra layer of warmth at nights sitting watching the TV, asked me to crochet him a blanket, one that he could handle himself as many of the shop bought blankets were very heavy to handle. He wanted it light weight but needed to be warm and cosy.

crochet baby blanket pattern-crochet baby hat pattern Easy Baby Blanket and Baby Hat Set {Free Crochet Pattern} My friends have just had baby Boys! and I was looing for nice crochet pram blanket,  and matching crochet hat set. To make as a gift, I found lots of beautiful girly ones, but  I struggled to find boyish blankets. I  wanted to make sure that it was cosy but also looked like modern for them. I love how easily this stitch works up using combinations of  (sk 1 single crochet, 2 single crochet in next sc}
It  also gives this blanket a cosy texture.
I used a wool arran, with cotton mix
(I was given the wool so I am unsure of its actual make.)

However I would  say its Arran /worsted weight. It you are using a lighter wool make sure you follow the size guidelines. And I would recommend lining it, with a cosy fleece.

I used a very soft cotton wool mix blend Aran (worsted weight)
And a 4.00mm Hook

Gauge on a blanket with a pattern stitch is not so important. I go by measurements.  IF you have not been given measurements then a good rule of thumb for making a pram cover or blanket is
Baby Pram cover or Blanket size.

 W75cm x L100cm - 30 inches x 39 inches .

Ch 101 Loosely.  (or until desired width is achieved)

Row 1:  2 sc in 3rd ch from hook. (Sk next ch, 2 sc in next ch) across to end,  turn — 100 sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, sk first sc, 2 sc in next sc (sk 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc) across to end,  turn — 100 sts.

Repeat Row 2 until blanket is 30 inches. (or desired length)

Edging:
Round 1: Ch 1, dc in each dc across to end of row,  work 3 dc in  last stitch {corner turn) dc evenly across left edge. 3 dc in last stitch {corner turn}
 Dc in bottom loop of each ch across to end, 3 sc in last loop {corner}
Dc evenly across last edge to end, 3 more dc in last sp; join with sl st to first dc of rnd  {corner}

Rd 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp). (Sk 1 sc, 5dc in next sc, ch 1) across to corner.
(2Dc in same sc, ch 1) 2 times more (corner turned). Repeat around for next three sides of blanket, only repeating last (dc in same sc, ch1) one time in last corner.
Join with sl st to 3 rd ch of 1 st ch-4.
 Fasten off.
To finish,  you can weave a ribbon of your chosen colour through the Dc round of blanket edge.

FREE Vintage Crochet Shawl Pattern Easy

My great aunt came to visit us, she is 95 and every year she says this is my last year.... she just gets on a PLANE and fly's up to Scotland for her weeks holiday. She really is amazing, I wanted to make her something special for her birthday as it fell on her visit,
I found this beautiful vintage antique pattern and thought how awesome it would be to make it for my Aunt.
crochet, free pattern, shawl, baby blanket, lap blanket, vintage crochet patterns, easy crochet patternsThe shawl can be used as a lap blanket or a shawl, the stitches mean it is not a heavy piece, and sits snugly onto my aunt making her feel very cosy but not too suffocated as some of the more modern blankets make her feel, and obviously still able to move her hands and arms freely whilst keeping her neck and top of her shoulders warm. This would also make a gorgeous christening blanket for a new baby.
