A FREE Printable Crochet Pattern for a Baby Cardigan

A Free Crochet Baby Cardigan Pattern for Sizes Baby - 2 years

I was sent a picture to see if I would make a little cardigan I was delighted with the results of this pattern from Redheart
This crocheted sweater is available in sizes Newborn - 24 months, and is crocheted in a Double Knit making this a nice lightweight soft cardigan that is wearable at any time of year. I was asked to crochet his in Grey yarn which I ordered from HERE (*)

Please note: I made the sleeves in continuous rounds which kind of messed with the pattern, an di also made the collar 3 rows wider to allow the roll collar.

FREE Crochet Cardigan Pattern (3-6 months)

I was asked if I would consider making a bigger pattern for the popular Baby Bear Newborn Cardigan. Probably it is such a popular crochet baby cardigan pattern because its so easy. The readers request was to use Double Knit Yarn and a 3.5mm hook. to make a simple baby cardigan, suitable for a boy or a girl.  T\he simple method of working top down means it is a very beginner friendly introduction to making baby clothes. I honestly do not make cardigans or sweaters any other way now.
Of course designing a whole new sized item takes time, lots of trials and errors and a few times ripping it out. My designing process is not really straight forward, I work backwards from finished measurements. I am sure there is an easier way however I like to fiddle around and, well basically just do it my way. Eventually I have now worked out the perfect finished size for a 3- 6 month old baby. AND more importantly a simple straightforward pattern.

Easy Newborn Crochet Cardigan FREE Pattern A Star is Born

FREE crochet cardigan pattern for a newborn, that will fit the newly born baby perfectly. This crochet cardigan is made from the neck down using the single crochet.  Giving a nice firm neck and shoulder area, and for the body part  I wanted a nice pattern effect, eventually I decided on the star stitch. I have hunted around to find the perfect fitting first sized baby cardigan, and struggled, after my friend gave birth to a very healthy but small baby girl. Every outfit was way to big even in the first sizes, so the Star is Born baby cardigan was perfect.
