Free Vintage Crochet Pattern for Baby Cardigan Jacket Tried and Tested

I Love the look of Vintage crochet patterns, but in the beginning was put off by the way they were written.  The measurements, yarn and hook sizes vary considerably to what we are used to.
However I have been trying out some of the pattern on Free Vintage Crochet Patterns and I love how this little Baby cardigan jacket has turned out.

Have you looked longingly at some of the pretty free vintage crochet baby dress patterns and think if only you could make one? Do you want to crochet a dress but think it too advanced for a beginner like you? Think again. My Friend Bev has just taken that leap from beginner to a more advanced crochet project. And completed the most gorgeous little crochet baby dress pattern, and
I m delighted she agreed to share with us how she found a more advanced pattern,  after only being able to crochet the basics, hats, squares, afghans etc, hopefully also giving you a little boost of confidence that you too could crochet a little dress, and not be put off by trying something a little more advanced.
I am thrilled that Bev has taken up crocheting in her spare time again.
 I asked if she would share her journey on how she has progressed from a beginner to something a little more advanced.

Free Crochet Baby Blanket Patterns

crochet baby blanket pattern-crochet baby hat pattern Easy Baby Blanket and Baby Hat Set {Free Crochet Pattern} My friends have just had baby Boys! and I was looing for nice crochet pram blanket,  and matching crochet hat set. To make as a gift, I found lots of beautiful girly ones, but  I struggled to find boyish blankets. I  wanted to make sure that it was cosy but also looked like modern for them. I love how easily this stitch works up using combinations of  (sk 1 single crochet, 2 single crochet in next sc}
It  also gives this blanket a cosy texture.
I used a wool arran, with cotton mix
(I was given the wool so I am unsure of its actual make.)

However I would  say its Arran /worsted weight. It you are using a lighter wool make sure you follow the size guidelines. And I would recommend lining it, with a cosy fleece.

I used a very soft cotton wool mix blend Aran (worsted weight)
And a 4.00mm Hook

Gauge on a blanket with a pattern stitch is not so important. I go by measurements.  IF you have not been given measurements then a good rule of thumb for making a pram cover or blanket is
Baby Pram cover or Blanket size.

 W75cm x L100cm - 30 inches x 39 inches .

Dc evenly across last edge to end, 3 more dc in last sp; join with sl st to first dc of rnd  {corner}

Rd 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp). (Sk 1 sc, 5dc in next sc, ch 1) across to corner.
(2Dc in same sc, ch 1) 2 times more (corner turned). Repeat around for next three sides of blanket, only repeating last (dc in same sc, ch1) one time in last corner.
Join with sl st to 3 rd ch of 1 st ch-4.

I love making baby blankets, the wools we have to choose from is unbelieveable, I have several books by my side when I am crocheting like the
The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs: 500 Classic and Original Patterns I have made some beautiful pieces using some of these easy to follow stitches. I also sit at nigh time and can make up a crochet square of the stitch using scrap yarn, once I have a few of them I stitch together and donate to the local elderly Folks home. where they love getting these simple lapghans.
