EASY filet Crochet heart Square Pattern (Part 1 The Filet Heart Sqaure written Pattern)

Step by Step-written pattern to show you how to crochet a heart shape within a square with filet crochet.
heart shape within a solid square filet crochet

Easy versatile, and beginner-friendly FREE written-out crochet pattern for a heart filet square.

The square is the perfect size for coasters, dishcloths, cushions, or like I am doing making a few and stitching together for a wonderful baby blanket.

(This is Part 1 of 2 Parts, Part 1 on this page I Will show you  how to crochet the Heart in a solid square using filet crochet )

I will then show you in my NEXT blog post.

How to create a unique and personalised baby blanket by crocheting a heart filet square and turning it into a beautiful fleece-backed baby blanket.

(The reason is I'm in the middle of trying to get our house renovation finished, an everything is EVERYWHERE!)

It can be made in ANY size and uses ANY yarn.

And I am going to turn my Heart Squares into a Fleece Lined Baby Blanket, which I will add a post to next week on how I did this too. Lets hope baby holds on!!

The crochet heart Square pattern involves creating a series of open and closed squares to create a mesh-like pattern, resulting in a delicate and beautiful blanket that can be customized to the maker's preferences.

If you are a complete beginner I have a super Beginner friendly Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern HERE.

Or If you do not want a fleece backing and just want to crochet the plain backing for your blanket then I suggest my Easy to crochet Baby Blanket Pattern

Just make sure your starting Chain is the total length of your sqaures once joined together

example : 1 sqaure = 8 inches  TIMES number of squares sewn together ( X 2) = 16 inches starting chain

I have been working with the Open Mesh Block stitch recently and Have a Free crochet pattern for a long-sleeved mesh top worked in the open mesh filet pattern.

How to Crochet The Mesh Stitch

So I wanted to create a cute Square with an heart incorporating this open stitch to create the heart shape.

BUT a more solid square than a traditional filet crochet square.

I will share the steps to create the heart square and how I used it to make a newborn baby blanket with a double fleece backing, using a small fleece blanket I picked up from a home decor store in my area.

You can use any fleece as long as it's appropriate to use for a baby!

I found This one online that is a great price

I will also provide tips and tricks for working on a filet pattern, you can experiment with any colors and pattern combinations.

Using soft and durable yarn, and adding a border to create a finished look.

With an emphasis on the responsibility of creating something special and one-of-a-kind for a new mum and the importance of making sure the design is practical and safe for the baby.

To Crochet, this filet heart involves creating a series of open and closed squares to create a pattern that resembles a mesh or net.

The result is a beautiful and delicate blanket that can be customized to your own preferences.

A crochet heart filet square can be a beautiful and sentimental way to create a baby blanket.

Anyway, a friend asked me to make a pram cover blanket for her to put over the pram when going out and about with her newborn baby as they love walking.

So she wanted the blanket to be cute but really warm too. I love it when I get asked to make something really special to that person.

But Sometimes the responsibility of getting to make such things is real! And I get really nervous when given a free Rein to crochet what I want.

Will they like it, will they use it

You really want to make something that is one of a kind and special to that new mum

I love crocheting Baby blankets and to be honest just think there is nothing nicer than a handmade crochet baby blanket for a new born.

Crochet Baby Blanket and Baby Hat Free Pattern

Although I do love a traditional Baby Blanket and Babies  Mamma wanted a modern feel with a little twist on the traditional making it a more modern crocheted baby blanket.

I decided on a Double-sided Baby Blanket one side with 4 squares sewn together and adding a double fleece backing to it.

She bought the yarn for this project and a small fleece blanket and I had free reign to do as I wished.

Materials Needed to Crochet the Heart Square:
  • Yarn in your choice of color
  • Crochet hook in the appropriate size for your yarn
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle to sew panels together
By following the simple written crochet pattern, you can create a series of squares that can be stitched together to create a unique and personalised blanket for your little one.  (SEE Part 2)

I would LOVE to see what you made with the Filet Heart Crochet Pattern.

Im thinking a lovely Heart Square Pillow in my mother in laws fav colors for mothers day.
oooh now I've written that im totally making it. - I will let you know how i get on.

Please tag me online #lisaauchcrochet

This is a Part 1 of Part 2 - next blog post will show you how to create the blanket side and connect the squares to the fleece blanket

Tips and Tricks:
  • When working on a filet pattern, it's important to keep your stitches consistent to create an even and balanced pattern.
  • Experiment with different colors and patterns to create a unique and personalised baby blanket.
  • Use a soft and durable yarn that will hold up to washing and wear.
  • Consider adding a border to your blanket to create a finished look
I'm, not one for making a baby blanket with holes in case little fingers get stuck. I usually stick to a shell stitch for a baby blanket or the Blanket Stitch, Like this baby blanket.

But we are in the highlands of Scotland so It's Windy and rains a lot, so the double fleece on the underside is a definite within the design, and the filet heart squares on top.

This is a great heart square and is more solid than the traditional filet crochet Where the main heart is filled with crochet stitches and the outside is created by the mesh stitch.
