I often get asked What Color Yarn to use for Sunflower Crochet?
The yellow yarn I used for the Sunflower Granny Square was a lighter shade of yellow.

My favorite yarn to use for crocheting the sunflower petals has to be a ball of yellow cotton feeling yarn I picked up from a store I was visiting recently.
King Cole Cherished If you can find it online - See alternatives for your country HERE . (AF*)
I also made the main part (white) of the Sunflower Crochet Cardigan in this Yarn. ! and it works up a treat for wearables too

I just love the soft look and slight shimmer to the yarn making it perfect for these LARGE Sunflowers.
But the petals also keep their shape extremely well and do not curl in as much as using an acrylic Double knit! Someone in my group has made these with Redheart Yarn and they are stunning too
The Brown Center for the Sunflower is an Acrylic general brand Double knit.
How to crochet a simple sunflower using this free crochet pattern created by LisaAuch Crochet.
The Sunflower is crocheted in pieces for the middle and then sewn together to join, with slight stuffing inserted. Adding the yellow leaves of the flower.
(I have also made Green leaves on the back of the sunflower using the alternative unworked stitches for the yellow petals! this is completely up to you if you wish to make the green leaves.
If making the sunflower for a full crochet flower bouquet I do not create the green leaves as they can become bulky when all put together.
Sunflower Crochet Pattern Starts HERE

We will now join both sides together, By working through both pieces and using YELLOW yarn to create the Petals.
Take 1 BROWN piece and 1 Green Piece with the Wrong SIDES facing each other (so the Right sides are showing)
NOTE *you can pin these together to help ensure you are hitting the right stitches on both sides when you are creating the Petals.
IN YELLOW With the Front side FACING YOU
Join Yarn in any of the top stitches of the brown, and the Touching Loop Of the GREEN by pulling through the yellow yarn from the green side to the brown side (making sure both sides are equal)
Complete around, slip stitch join to the beginning FIRST petal made.
with work facing you Join green yarn to any unworked green back loop at the back of the sunflower
*working all into the same space (Ch3, TrC, ch3, slip into first chain {picot made}, ch3, slip st all worked into the same space), slip st into the next 2 sts, * repeat around
In GREEN yarn,
Ch2, work 6 single crochet into the first chain (6 sts), This can be really tricky so if you need a bit more room you can Ch2, 7sc into the first chain)
working in rounds and do NOT join, complete as many rounds as you need for the length you require for the stem.
FASTEN OFF and leave a length to sew to the flower later to side until the next step is complete.
You are now going to use a piece of wire, curl one END into a spiral inserting this into the Head of the Sunflower to stabilize the flower head to lay flat.
insert the wire by twisting around the wire spiral and thread through the stem.
Sew the STEM to the Back of the middle GREEN side of the Flower to finish.
