When I crocheted a Heart Granny Square Bucket hat using a SOLID crochet heart square.
However I was asked if I could do a written tutorial for the popular 'Granny Heart' made like a traditional granny square.
A granny square is a type of crochet pattern that's made up of a series of chain stitches and double crochets. So you will need to be confident in these crochet sts.
The Granny Sqaure is a popular beginners crochet pattern to try because it's easy to make and can be used to create a variety of different projects.

The heart granny square is a variation of the traditional granny square, but instead of a square shape, it's in the shape of a heart! And then you square it Off using the Granny Stitch
I have already crocheted a Granny Heart before, so all I needed to do was square it off.
So after a little bit of working out, I finally got the time to write it up.
This is the written crochet pattern and tutorial for the Granny Square, with a Heart.
I have added in images at each step to show you where to make the stitches.

NOTES: Crochet Pattern is written in US terms
You will crochet the Heart FIRST. Then add the following rounds of Granny Stitch to turn the Heart into a Square
Abbreviations Used:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
sp = space
st = stitch
slst = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
trc = Treble crochet
ch2 = stitches made of 2 chains
Cluster = 3 Double Crochet stitches worked in the same space
NOTES: When I am crocheting INTO the stitch between the 2nd and 3rd cluster I insert my crochet hook directly INTO the POST of the Double Crochet Stitch from the previous round
My ODC was going just a little bit mad trying to get this to sit completely symmetrical.
How to Crochet The Heart at the Center of the Square
START:
Rnd1: Start with Ch4 (counts as your FIRST Dc of 3DC Cluster),working into the FIRST chain, 2dc into the same chain space (1st cluster made)
Continue working into this first ch, (ch2, 3dc ) repeat ( ) 3 times
finish with a ch2 , and slst into the 3rd chain at the start of the Rnd.
You will have a Square, 4 x 3dc granny clusters with 4x ch 2 corner space
Rnd 2: slip st along to the next stitch ( NOTE: this is the beginning stitch of Round 2 )
Ch1 working into the first chain 2 corner work 8 treble crochet.
Sc into the 2nd and 3rd stitch of the next 3dc cluster,
sc in the next chain space,
sc in the first dc of the next cluster ,
in the middle of the next st work (2sc, ch1, 2sc) (Bottom PONIT of Heart It may help to put a marker at the ch1 space HERE as this is where you will start the NEW color for next round)
sc in the next st,
sc into the chain CORNER,
sc into the first and 2nd stitches of the next 3dc cluster, skip last st of cluster and work 8 treble crochet into the last chain 2 space CORNER
ch1, slip stitch into the middle of the heart at the start.
Change Yarn Colour HERE
working into the back loops ONLY for the whole round will help the Crochet's heart stand out more
TO start Hold the Heart Upside Down
Rnd3: join yarn with a slipst in the back loop of the middle ch1 stitch of the 2sc stitches at the bottom POINT of the heart

long double crochet INTO the Beginning of Ch2 (Make this Stitch CENTER of Heart)
Starting the Second half of Squaring the heart

Note:
we are now creating the Granny Square
each corner will now have (3dc, chain 3, 3dc) all in SAME space
and each 3dc cluster on the sides will have a chain 1 between them.
Ch3, working into the same place as ch3, work a further 2dc (First 3 dc Cluster complete)
