I LOVE this over-the-shoulder crochet tote bag and actually use it most when I am going to the beach as the bag is big enough for our beach towels and when bringing the damp and sandy towels home in the bag, the sand can escape through the material. The crochet bag is also easily washed. And dried. ready for your next adventure.

The Granny Squares can be sewn together to create a large Crochet Bag and I have added images to help you with the layout of the Granny Squares to make a LARGE crochet bag.

The pattern is very easy to understand with picture tutorials helping the beginners at crochet to make the granny square step by step.

If you have never made a Granny Square and feel intimidated. Let me assure you that once you start the process, and see that the beginning of the granny square has 4 corners, and in between the four corners you will 3dc stitches.

Please note: I do NOT start my Granny Square with a magic circle/ring. I really have had a nightmare with the magic ring and it undoing itself so I start my granny squares with a chain 4 to start, (counts as the FIRST dc and then 2dc to make the first 3dc stitch.

I am going to write out the BASIC Granny Square Crochet Pattern. Once you get the hang of the first couple of rounds you then just add one more set of 3dcs to each side of the square as you go up the rounds.

The Layout of the Squares is as the picture beloa
Layout for the crochet bag.

How do you crochet granny squares together for a bag? I find the BEST way to join the Granny Squares is to SEW them together, holding the side of the square by side to side and sewing OVER the front loops of each side.

How to sew the Granny Squares Together to make a Bag

I prefer this method as it does NOT leave a ridge on your work, which can occur sometimes when slip-stitching them together with your hook and yarn.

I find that other methods can Pull your squares and sometimes your tension can start off great but if you are not careful your tension can become tight, drawing in the squares. Making the bag wonky.
