The beautiful Crochet Sunflower Coasters, with their own little holder basket to keep them from being lost, are BIG sellers at the craft fairs, especially in summer.
I also prefer small crochet projects, that are quick and easy to make, especially if it's hot outside, but I still want to crochet something cute that's quick and easy.
I was looking at the sunflower crochet wind spinner and as I places my cup down I decided there and then I needed some wonderful sunflower coasters. That I can take outside and use with the garden furniture
How To Crochet Sunflower Coasters and what you will need
A 4.500mm and brown DK or cotton DK yarn (I used acrylic DK), and aran weight for the basket,
Dc = Double Crochet
Trc = Treble Crochet.
sl st = slip st.
Reverse Single crochet - working single crochet backward.
Us terms used.
Round1: chain4, working into the first chain on the hook, make 16 TrC, Slip to join at top of chain 4 starts (16 Trc)
Round 2: ch4, work 2Trc in each stitch around, and finally work 1 further Trc into the previous rounds slip to join. (33Trc)
Round 3: With Yellow/ orange join new yarn, in ANY st, ch1, sc, * (slip st into next st, ch4, Trc, all in same space, ( work Trc, ch4, slst,in same st) sc in next st* Repeat around. (11 petals made)
Round 4: Ch1, 4sc around next ch4, (sc, ch3 ,sc in same st) 4sc around the ch4, slst in next sc, 4 sc around next ch4 (sc, ch3, sc) in next TrC, 4 sc around next ch4, repeat from *YOu have now completed your sunflower coaster Make as many more as you wish (I made 4)
How to crochet the Basket for the Sunflower Coasters. (In Aran weight yarn)
Ch4 to start.
Rnd 1: Ch3, work 12 dc into the first ch from the hook, (12dc)
Rnd 2: ch 3, Work 2dc into each stitch around, (24)
Rnd 3: Ch3 work 2dc, dc in next st, repeat around, (36)
Rnd 4: Ch3, work 2dc, dc in next 2 sts, (48)
Rnd 5: Ch3, work 2dc, dc in next 3 sts (60)
Rnd6: Ch3, work 2dc, dc in next 4 sts (72)
Rnd 7: working in the BackLoop only: chain 1 to start and work 2sc in base of the chain, (skip 1 stitch, 2sc in next, repeat around)
Rnd 8 to Rnd 11: working your 2sc between the 3rd and 4th line of the previous rnds 2sc cluster,, then through the skipped space of previous round.
Rnd 8: Reverse single crochet around, slip to join in the first stitch, and fasten off to finish
