Katy Perry Crochet Hat Lookalike FREE Crochet Pattern |
This is how I made the beautiful crochet bucket hat that Katy Perry was wearing.
The Hat shown HERE is made with a 4.00mm hook and is HUGE but I wanted to show you clearly how to crochet the squares, as you will not work INTO the stitches themselves, you WILL work INTO the space between 2 stitch posts.
Just like everyone we read about Katy Perry taking her family to the circus and then stopping off at a restaurant for something to eat and her encounter as being treated like a normal person in a restaurant. GO you, waiter person!
But what struck us Crafty people IS THE HAT she was wearing!. Crochet, a Flower Center Granny Square HAT!

I considered using the Daisy flower crochet granny square but I thought it was too small.

Since this is a 'made-up version' I have no idea where Katy Perry Bought her hat, nor what materials were used to make it, IF ANYONE knows the origin of the hat can you shout out to me and I shall give credit for inspo.
Please Note: I will provide the pattern for free on my website, (with ADS) to compensate for my time. In dissecting the pattern.
Back to the Granny Flower Square Crochet Hat, Katy was wearing. It was just too cute NOT to try to dissect the pattern and recreate it.
I am currently housebound with sun-sensitive antibiotics so I'm gonna LOVE wearing this crochet hat as it has a large brim made from squares all around to add super protection from the sun.
Crocheting the Granny Squares.
This written bucket hat pattern will fit medium/ large adult-sized heads
IF you need to make these fit around your head when joined, so I made my squares 4.5 inches wide. (to fit 22 inches around)
(we will add a couple of rows to the length once they are joined before adding to the brim)
We will make the squares FIRST so that we can make sure the top of the hat is going to fit evenly AROUND (so the 5 squares joined together Will total your head circumference (and a little bit of ease will be added when joining them together into a circle)
The Brim Looks to have exactly 2 more squares so they sit just off center of each other in the round when joined, so that will mean SEVEN for the Brim so that means I will need to make 12 squares in TOTAL! One individual square for the top.
I tried to find a Granny Square that looked like this online to make the process easier. But you all know my luck I couldn't find any anywhere so Off to the drawing book I went.
I prefer not starting with the magic circle and like to chain a few stitches, and work into the FIRST chain made, then once the round is finished pull tight.
The Crochet Flower Granny Square for Katy Perrys Hat.
I used a 3.00 mm hook and double knit yarn, (however, I think this hat should be made in cotton I just didn't have any at the time of making it. ( I am an extremely loose crocheter so please adjust your hook and tension to ensure your finished squares (including the GREEN ) measure 4.5 inches across when finished BEFORE joining)
Make 5 in TOTAL (for the Hats middle BAND)
US terms used in the pattern
trc - Treble crochet
NOTE: you will be working INTO the space between the stitches (between the POSTS of previous rounds of stitches)
I used a double-knit yarn but this would look amazing in cotton! Let me see your creations with the square #lisaauchcrochet
