For the Large Petal crochet sunflower I used a Hook of 4.00mm I used Double knit yarn *(af) for the center and flower petals, however, I think nice thick wool would work just as well.
If you are using a thinner yarn the ends of the petals WILL turn up so you will probably need to pin down and spray the leaves (I use hairspray) If putting them onto a canvas (without a protective layergoing over the top) I will use spray starch to keep the petals flat.
How to Crochet a sunflower
- Ch2, Make 8 sc into the FIRST chain on the hook (8 SC)
- 2sc in each stitch around, slip to join, ch1, (16 SC)
- (*2 sc in next stitch, sc in next*) repeat * *, slip to join, ch1 (24SC)
- (*2sc in next stitch, sc in next 2 sts* )repeat * *, slip to join (32SC)
- Sc in each stitch around
- Fasten off. weave in ends.
How to crochet the SunFlower Petals
- Join Yellow yarn color into any stitch from round 5
- Chain 12
- Slip stitch back into the 3rd chain from your hook, working back along the chain just made.
- (*1sc, 1hdc, and DC into each of the next remaining chains until the last chain*),
- skip 1 stitch from the last brown round and Slip stitch into the next stitch, (leaving 1 stitch between petals of the brown round)
- repeat step 2- 5for the rest of the petals.
- FINISH HERE for just 1 Layer of petals.
- slip to the FIRST unworked skipped stitch of the last row of BROWN
- Chain 12,
- Slip stitch back into the 3rd chain from your hook, working back along the chain just made.
- (*1sc, 1hdc, and DC into each of the next remaining chains until the last chain*),
- skip 1 stitch from the last brown round and Slip stitch into the next stitch, (leaving 1 stitch between petals of the brown round)
- repeat step 2- to Step 5 for the rest of the petals.
- FINISH OFF
