Crochet Bucket Hat Pattern (FREE)

Crochet Bucket Hat Pattern (adult) FREE

Bucket HAT Crochet Pattern free.

This is a free crochet pattern to help you crochet a bucket hat.

It is an easy written pattern, suitable for beginners, and the hat is made in the classic Single crochet stitch.
With a slight flair to the brim.

Making this a robust crochet bucket hat that will keep its shape.

This Summers must have headwear Accessory will keep its shape, no matter if you are wearing it out at the beach to protect your face from the sun or dancing away at the summer festival.

The Festival Bucket hat is a must-have fashion accessory this season. I have several free bucket hat patterns available on my website

TO crochet a Bucket hat is not as difficult as you may think, meaning even a beginner at Crochet can easily crochet this bucket hat. You DO NOT need a magic circle to start the hat! And if you can work the single crochet stitch. Then you ARE ready to crochet your bucket hat.

I just love the classic shape of the bucket hat you can make the bucket hat in any color combos you wish.

For the  Original Bucket hat Crochet Pattern, which my daughter now LIVES in! and wears it everywhere

Crochet Bucket Hat Pattern

I previously used the half-double crochet stitch, But I wanted a closer stitch pattern, so I could add alternating colors, especially for the summer to the bucket hat if I wanted.

NOTES on color change:

If you are wanting to use alternating colors for the hat remember this hat is worked from the top-down.

And in a Spiral, so the color changes might seem a little off, to help combat that.

Make sure you join the NEW color, pull through the NEW color in the LAST pull through of the single crochet,

So yarn over pull through original color, yarn over with only NEW color and pull through the new color.

How to make your bucket hat FIT properly and What Size to make your bucket hat

There is a little bit of maths, and I'm going, to be honest, it took me a while to get this, but now I understand it it's easy to custom any hat to any size you are making.

  1. Take your head measurement Around the fullest part (this is the circumference)
  2. DIVIDE that measurement by 3.14
  3. This number will measure the CIRCLES DIAMETER (when your increasing the circle once you meet this measurement you can STOP increacing, or if you need it bigger, keep increasing in the SAME pattern as you have been making the increases.

For this bucket hat, it will fit a Head circumference of an Adult LARGE = 22''

The Bucket hat length is approx  =  22-23 cm / 8¾”-9”. I have found this the best length, for most people, and just gives enough turn up if you need it.

Materials to crochet the bucket hat

YARN: I used a Double knit weight Yarn just less than 100g ball.

Hook size 3.5 mm (I am quite a loose crocheter so please keep checking it's going to fit, and adjust, the hook or tension to suit you )

you will work in a continuous spiral, so you may prefer to use stitch markers to keep track of the rounds.

The pattern is written in US terms

Rnd  1: chain2 to start and Work 5 sc in the first chain. (5sc)

Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in every sc the entire round  (10 sc)

Rnd 3: * 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc *, repeat from *-* the entire round  (15 sc)
