Crochet Granny Square with a heart in the middle |
TO make the Bucket Hat with the granny heart squares You will need to crochet 4 squares each measuring 5.5 width and 5-inch length I will provide extra images along with the written instructions to help you turn the crochet heart square into a bucket hat.
PLEASE note: to achieve the desired square height and width for the bucket hat I added 1 more Row of HDC
Once you have added the extra round for the bucket hat squares. I like to Block them
My homemade easy blocking board is actually wooden long kebab sticks and a gardening kneeling pad! genius huh?
I like to connect the Granny heart squares BEFORE I start making the hat. Hold the wrong side to the wrong side along the Lengths and Slip stitch to join.
I prefer the slip stitch method as you get a more structured hat finish, IF you want you can whip stitch to join the granny heart squares

Join the Granny Heart squares in a length
|
TO start the Crown of the Bucket hat
In Chosen Main Colour
and a 4.00mm hook
Do NOT join work in a continuous round, use a marker to keep track of rounds.
FOr the Example, the model is wearing in the image.
Hat measures 22 inches around
Finished diameter at crown = 7 inches

working out of the heart bucket hat pattern |
Chain 4, Round 1: work 10 hdc in first chain (10sts)
Round 2: 2hdc in each st around (20sts)
Round 3: *2hdc in first st, hdc in next* repeat around (30sts)
Round 4 : *2hdc in first st, hdc in next 2sts * repeat around (40 sts)
Round 5 : *2hdc in first st, hdc in next 2sts * repeat around (50 sts)
Round 6 : *2hdc in first st, hdc in next 2sts * repeat around (60 sts)
Round 7 : *2hdc in first st, hdc in next 2sts * repeat around (70 sts)
Round 8 : *2hdc in first st, hdc in next 2sts * repeat around (80 sts)
Round 9 : *2hdc in first st, hdc in next 2sts * repeat around (90 sts)
Divide your hat into 4 equal sections and place markers (as equal as you can)
Match up the Granny heart squares to the sections, and pin into place.
Continue working from the last stitch of round 9. Holding the wrong side to the wrong side
Slip stitch to join the Squares to the Crown of the hat.
Ensuring the squares are evenly spaced and the stitches are as close together as possible.
Again slip stitching through both sides to join gives the hat a more structured look
if you prefer it you can simply sew it together in whip stitch.
Fasten off and leave a long tail to join the final sides of the granny hearts together into a circle.
Bucket Hat Brim.
NOTE: blhdc = back loop half double crochet
work first stitches into the base of chain at start.
In the Main color
Starting in any Back loop of the joined squares bottom.
ch2,
Round1: work 2 Back Loop HDC in first st,
blhdc in the next 5 sts, 2hdc in next * Repeat around (slip to join)
Round 2:
work 2Hdc in first st,
hdc in the next 6 sts, 2hdc in next *
Repeat around (slip to join)
Round 3:
work 2Hdc in first st,
*hdc in the next 7 sts, 2hdc in next *
Repeat around (slip to join)
Round 4:
work 2Hdc in first st , *hdc in the next 8 sts,
2hdc in next *
Repeat around (slip to join)
Round 5: work hdc in each stitch around
I like to try it on at this point to make sure I have the Best brim width before I finish
My daughter is obsessed with her bucket hats and I cannot make them quick enough for her and her friends
