Following the directions given. You will create a beautiful knit look crochet baby beanie-type hat with a turnup. You can add curly spiral twirls ( I’ve added how-to crochet the spirals at the bottom of the pattern) Or

You could add on a gorgeous Pom Pom. (I love these POM POM MAKERS )

This hat would be another good one to add to the donating hats for hospitals. ( as always check actual hospital guidelines for what types it kinds of hats they are currently accepting)

And it is only Easy to crochet if you know how to crochet The Half Double Crochet Stitch. Because we are going to be working into a 3rd stitch of the Half double crochet. Do NOT BE put off though once you identify the 3rd loop it's a breeze.

Watch this video tutorial I made to help you crochet this hat

  • Just Always remember to have the diagonal stitch facing you

The Ridged crochet baby crochet hat is made side to side, which means there is a lot more stretchy and a lot of giving, than some of the baby hats crocheted in the round.

I initially made this little hat whilst awaiting the arrival of my grandson, my daughter had gone into labour early but then we ended waiting on him to appear.  So I was playing about with the stitches.

For this pattern, I am going to call the stitch  half double crochet worked into the 3rd front-facing diagonal stitch loop at the front of our work  =  HDC3rd loop

we are going to work

Half Double Crochet worked into the 3rd front-facing diagonal stitch loop at the front of our work for each ROW

This is NOT the camel stitch,  this way of working shows a knit look ridge on both sides.

Working HDC3rd loop for this pattern creates nearly an identical look to knit 1, purl 2

It’s a great crochet stitch for hats that you want to make with a brim as the pattern carries on both sides

This means we will be working in the Slanting stitch of the HDC on each side when we turn and work faces us which produces this knit and purl look crocheted ribbed texture.

Until you are familiar with where to place your hook i find it easier to identify the diagonal loop before starting each row.

Please NOTE:

I am an extremely loose crocheter you may need to go up a hook size or adjust your tension and stitch count  to reach desired measurements

I will add in measurements for bigger sizes if there is enough interest for them
