When I first learned How to crochet I was always asking my mother in law How do you crochet a basic beanie, and forever mixing up my measurements and would then ask my husband How do you size a crochet beanie again

I was never any good at maths but once she showed me how blooming easy it was to work out the correct sizing needed. I was astounded. 

I could never grasp geometry or algebra and to be honest, it scared me. My maths teacher gave up on me. Maybe they should teach math in Crochet. 

However, If you are interested in how to size a perfect fit crochet beanie, 

it's actually way simpler than you think 

Measure Head circumference 

DIVIDE THAT BY 3.14 (Pi) 

             

EQUALS CROWN DIAMETER 

Crown diameter is when we have increased the circle to the Measurement you worked out.

I've also chosen not to start the beanie hat with a magic circle because I feel, 

When starting out in crochet and learning new things, it can become quite overwhelming. When it really does not need to be 

Most crochet hat patterns I've seen  will say start with a 'magic loop'  

(Id say its advanced if you need a magic loop to start, as its not something I picked up for a few months after learning how to chain.) 

And I guarantee if you are a beginner at crochet you will know how to make a CHAIN. 

So I specifically designed this easy adult beanie crochet hat with beginners in mind and you will start with a CHAIN of 4. 

How many chains do you need to start a beanie? 

You will start the beanie by making 4 chains THEN working into the FIRST chain you created! 

Easy Adults Basic Beanie Pattern FREE. 

We will Use the Double Crochet stitch (dc) to make this beanie. 

The chain does not count in stitch count, 

you will slip to join 

A 4.00mm Hook, and DK yarn.

ch 4, WORK THE FIRST round ALL into the FIRST chain you mad

Rnd 1: 10dc in the ring, Sl st to join, ch 2.

Rnd 2: 2 dc in next dc, and in each st around, Sl st to join,, ch 2.

(20 sts)

Rnd 3: 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next) repeat around, Sl st to join, ch 2. 

(30 sts.)

Rnd 4: 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeat around, Sl st to join, ch 2. (40sts.)

Rnd 5: 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeat around, Sl st to join, ch 2. (50sts).

Rnd 6: 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeat around, Sl st to join, ch 2. 

(60 sts).

How to size up and Make your Beanie Bigger: 

At this point, You have now reached the circumference of your hat, 

(i.e. Measure around your head and this is the Same as the Circumference of your hat. So if you think you need it larger just continue increasing in the established pattern) 

Rnd 7 to Rnd 22:  Or until the length is 8 inches from top 

Dc in each stitch around, slip to join, ch 1.

(Work until the desired length is achieved)

On the last round, I like to finish off with a smaller crochet stitch

( so If I was working in DC I would finish with a row of 1/2 double crochet) 

hdc in each dc around, sl st to first hdc, ch 1. (60 sts).

 Fasten off and weave in ends.

How to Crochet a Simple crochet flower for your Beanie hat 

This is a super simple crochet flower pattern perfect for adding to hats. 

Chain 3 to start, 

Chain 3, 10 sc into 1st chain on hook, 

slip to join to top of Ch 3

*Ch 2, slip into next stitch* repeat from ** around

until you have 10 loops 

(if you want a 5 petal 6 petal just adjust 

by skipping stitches in between) 

Slip into the st base of 1st loop

chain 2, 3DC in the loop for petal, 

ch2 slip into the base of 1st loop. 

( 1st petal created) 

slip into 2nd loop *chain3, 3 DC Chain 2, 

slip into the base of petal loop and slip into start next petal*

 continue working in each petal from ** around. 

finish off and weave in ends.
