The easy free crochet pattern is especially good for beginners to be able to crochet this adorable baby Bonnet and Bootie set. 

The recipient will be delighted to get this as a gift for a new baby which is just perfect for a preemie or newborn. 

It's on the small side and it's just perfect enough to fit those precious newborn infant babies when everything else is just too big to even fit the shops bought newborn clothing.  

Please be mindful of the cord ties on the bonnet.

  The front of the bonnet can be folded back to make it smaller if needed and helps to get a cozy fit

This little crochet bonnet and crochet booties set is so easy to make and takes no time at all. making this an ideal last-minute baby shower gift set, and making a beautiful crochet photo prop. 

 For making bigger than the stated, just add another round of increases, following the sequence.

I used a 4.50 uk (G6) steel hook ( I am an extremely loose crocheter, you may need to go up a hook size to achieve measurements)

TO crochet the Newborn BOnnet   Head circumference 12"-13"  Back of Head diameter across 4.75"  

Newborn Crochet Baby Bonnet Pattern 

4.50mm  hook
US crochet terms used. 
DK / Stylecraft special /marriners baby soft

Magic circle

Ch3, Make 14 DCS in the first chain on hook, slip to join. 

Rnd 2: Ch2,  2 DCs in each stitch around; slip stitch to top of beginning CH 3 to join (24)

Rnd 3: ch3 *dc in next st, 2dc in next st* in each stitch around. repeat around, leaving the last 5 DCs unworked. Ch2, TURN (work at this point should measure 4.75 inches across widest parts)

Rnd 4: Ch3, Dc in each stitch, leaving the unworked stitches) TURN

Rnd 5: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 6: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across 

Rnd 7: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 8: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across,

Rnd 9: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 10: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across, TURN

Rnd 11: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 12: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across, TURN

Rnd 13: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 14: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across, 

Bottom Of Bonnet (neckline) 

Row 1: CH 1, turn to work along the bottom of bonnet around the neck — work SC evenly around the neckline in SC to end of row (including unworked DCs of Row 2 (at center back of bonnet). 

Make sure this is an even number of stitches along the neck edge.  Ch1, TURN  

Row 2: Working back along the sc row just made.  ch2, *skip 1 stitch, ch1, sc in next* repeat ** along the edge and finish off.

Row 3: work 1 sc into each stitch and chain space. 

Ensuring you are working on the RS for the front edging. 

FRONT Edging

Ch2, slip stitch into next st, * ch1,sc in next st*  repeat continue working in this manner until the last space.

 Ch2,  slip stitch to finish.  

Fold Back front of the bonnet, the cord or ribbon will hold in place at the bottom ends or you can make a few stitches along the brim to secure, but I  leave because the baby's head shape changes so quickly in the first few weeks. 

You can thread a ribbon around the neckline or make a cord by 

CH 75 or desired length for a tie, enough to thread through the ch 1 spaces and to loosely tie under the chin. Fasten off neatly

 (Or if preferred you can skip this part and just thread through a ribbon to finish off )

Weave in all ends


Ribbon to finish off if you wish

or alternative start (Ch4 work 13 dc into 1st chain )

Preemie 4,00mm hook or hook to achieve 3.25 inches across back of bonnet) 

Ch3, Make 12 dcs in first chain on hook, slip to join. 

Rnd 2: Ch2,  2 DCs in each stitch around; slip stitch to top of beginning CH 3 to join (24)

Rnd 3: ch2 *2dc , dc in next st* in each stitch around. repeat around, leaving the last 3 DCs unworked. Ch2, TURN (32)

Rnd 4: Ch2, Dc in each stitch, leaving the unworked stitches) TURN

Rnd 5: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 6: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across 

Rnd 7: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 8: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across,  (Finish here  and continue to the bottom of the bonnet if you DO NOT WANT THE FOLD BACK BRIM

Rnd 9: ch1 sc in each stitch, TURN

Rnd 10: Ch3, Dc in each stitch across,  (these last 2 rows can be folded back to make a snug fit if needed) 

Bottom Of Bonnet (neckline) 

Row 1: Slip stitch in the corner; CH 1, turn to work on the bottom of bonnet around the neck — work SC evenly around the neckline in SC to end of row (including unworked DCs of Row 2 (at center back of bonnet).Make sure this is an even number of stitches along the neck edge.  Ch1, TURN (22 sc sts) 

Row 2: Working back along the sc row just made.  ch2, *skip 1 stitch, ch1, sc in next* repeat ** along the edge and finish off.

Join Yarn to the bottom corner on RS of work to work the front edging. 

FRONT Edging

*Ch2, slip stitch into next st, ch1,sc in next st,  

continue working in this manner until the last space. Ch2,  slip stitch to finish.  

EASY Simple Crochet Pattern for Baby Booties

Start with Ch26

 
ROW 1: HDC in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (25 hdc)  Ch 2 (counts as an HDC on next row), turn


ROW 2 - 3: HDC in each hdc across row (25 hdc).  ch 2, turn.

ROW 4: DC in each hdc across row (25 dc) - do not chain 3 at the end, just turn


ROW 5 (top of bootie) : slip st in the first 5 dcs, ch 3.  (counts as one dc) dc in the same st and then in each dc across leaving  4 sts unworked at the end..   Chain 3,  turn


ROWS 6 and 7 :   DC in each dc across the sts just worked being sure to DC into the very last stitch, ch 3 and turn 

ROW 8: 
Sc into 1st st near hook, ch 3, slip stitch in next st, repeat across to make a ruffle on the top.

Finish off.  ~Fold piece in half and stitch up using yarn and big needle
(this is the wrong side of the bootie.)  
Turn booties right side out and shape them with your hands. 

Crochet another length of chain sts and thread through Row 6 and tie at front of Bootie.
