You can choose how you finish the baby hat as you like it with ribbons, crochet flowers other appliques, or just leave it as a plain Beanie hat.

The baby hat crochet pattern will fit a newborn baby and is easy to follow the written directions to make it a little bigger for the crochet baby hat to fit 0-3 months. you will measure first the Crown diameter

And then without increasing, you will continue working in the double crochet stitch until the specified Length of your baby hat is reached. 

The sizes of your crochet hat should be for a newborn and 0-3 months

Crochet hat sizes for a newborn baby 

Crown diameter: Approximately 4.25 inches across

Hat circumference: Around 13 inches (approximately)

Hat height (number of rows worked): 5 inches

Crochet Hat Sizes and measurements For a 0-3 months baby  

Crown diameter: Approximately 4.75 inches

Hat circumference: Around 14-15 inches (approximately)

Hat height: 5.5 inches

And If you wanted to make the Baby hat for the NEXT sizes up you will simply 

INCREASE each round in continuing sequence, Then once the crown diameter for the size is reach, continue without increasing until the Length of the hat is achieved.

Well, it is actually really easy, and crocheting a little baby hat is so enjoyable even for beginners at crochet it is such a fast and EASY crochet project.

These hats work up quickly, require minimal yarn, and allow you to make several in different colors and combinations.

What You will need to crochet this baby hat. 

Double Knit YARN 

A crochet hook 

(newborn) 4.00mm 

(0-3 months) - 4.50mm  

Please NOTE: I am an extremely loose crocheter so please hack the crown diameter at round 4 for measurement.

25g of yarn and a little extra for the crochet flower

Crochet Baby Hat Pattern is Written in US term

The newborn baby hat follows the pattern and parts written in red, follows instructions for the bigger size, and uses a 4.00mm hook. 0-3 months baby hat use a Hook 4.50mm I am an extremely LOOSE crocheter you may need to go up a hook size to achieve measurements

(I chain 2 at the beginning of the round, you may wish to chain 3 at the start) 

NOTE: 

Each round is joined with a slip stitch, chain 2 or chain 3 is not counted as part of the stitch counts per round. 

Special instructions:(always make the first stitch in every base of chain 2/3 to start )

(this helps with the shaping of the beanie.)

 The newborn head circumference of the finished hat 12- 13 inches this hat will be stretchy as we are using Double Crochet (DC) 

Sizes for a crochet Baby Hat TO crochet a Hat for a Newborn

use a 4.00mm hook  and Double Knit Yarn, crown diameter - will measure approx 4.00 inches across  and will measure 13  inches (approx) around (hat circumference) Hat Height for a baby will be 5 inches 

Using a 4.00 mm hook and Double knit yarn to crochet a baby hat for a newborn 

 TO Crochet a Hat for a 0-3 months baby 

use a 4.50mm hook and Double Knit yarn 

the crown diameter will measure approx 4.75

will  14-15  inches approx around  

Hat height 5.5 inches 

Using a 4.5mm hook and Double knit yarn to crochet a baby hat to fit 0-3 months

Please be advised I crochet extremely loosely you may need to go up a hook size to achieve the measurements) 

SO PLEASE check your crown width for hat is correct for your desired size at Rnd  4 

You do not need to know how to crochet a magic circle to make this hat, 

TO Start to Crochet the baby hat

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 12 DC into the first chain, 

or  instead (Magic circle and 12 dc into the circle), 

slip stitch into top of ch3 (12)

Rnd 2:  Ch 2,

2 DC in every stitch around (increasing  in every stitch around)

Slip into the top of ch 2 to join (24) 

Rnd 3:  Ch2, (1st Dc in the base chain2 ), 2DC in next stitch,

*dc in next stitch, 2DC* in next * repeat around (you are increasing 1 at every 2nd stitch around) 

Slip into the top of ch2 to join (36) (PIC 2)  

Rnd 4:  Ch2, (1st Dc in the base chain 3)

 *DC in next 2sts,  2DC in the next stitch* repeat ** around

 (you are increasing by 1 in every 3rd stitch around

 Slip into the top of ch2, to join (48) 

 at this point, your hat should  measure across (diameter) 

Newborn  crown diameter 4.25 inches across 

0-3 months crown diameter 4.75 inches across

NOTE: Newborn size work as follows but finish the double crochet rounds 

after you have worked Round 9

NOW JUMP TO Round 11 and complete hat from rnd 11  onwards...

(you will have 12 rounds completed for a newborn ) 

Rnd  5 to Rnd 10: Ch2, 

starting in the base of Ch2, 

Dc in each stitch around(48)

Slip into the top of ch2 to join on every round

Rnd 10 to Rnd 14: (Ch1 at the beg of each round)

 Sc in each st around. Slip into the top of ch 1 to join

The finished length for the hat from top to bottom edge should be for NEWBORN 5. inches  

NOTE: The finished length for 0-3 months is 5.5/ 5.75 inches.

How to Crochet a Simple crochet flower for a baby Hat 

Magic Circle, 10SC into a circle, slip st to join,

(or an alternative way to start ) 

Chain 2, 10 sc into 1st chain on hook, slip to join to top of Ch2(10sc)

Rnd 2: *Ch 2, slip into next stitch* repeat from ** around until you have 10 loops

 (if you want a 5 petal 6 petal just adjust by skipping stitches in between)

Rnd 3: Slip into st base of 1st loop and work chain 2, 

3DC in loop for petal, 

ch2 slip into back into the 1st loop. (first petal complete) 

*slip into next loop *chain3, 3 DC Chain 2, 

slip into base of petal loop and slip into start next petal* Repeat around 

finish off and weave in ends.

To finish thread a simple ribbon through the last round of Double Crochet Posts

I usually leave a long tail to attach the flower to the hat.

 Or you can just leave without the Ribbon like this little example below.
