Essential Materials for Creating your Amigurumi Crochet Doll

To crochet your doll you will need.
Selection of aluminium Hooks ranging in several sizes. Smaller sizes for the body parts, (3.5mm) and larger hook (4.00mm) can be used for the clothing.   I have this set as shown and for amigurumi I prefer the steel hooks, As I get a selection of sizes for making the tight material needed for making body parts.
Cream colour yarn is perfect for the body parts. I find a nice Aran weight Cream yarn Perfect for creating The skin parts of your Doll . The light Blue Shown is not only A popular colour Just now to Create an 'Elsa" from Frozen inspired amigurumi doll. But I love the soft sheen and feel of this yarn.  Remember to buy your hair colour too
Hair colour is usually a beige or brown or whatever colour you would like the dolls hair to be.
Make sure you order the correct size of Eyes needed, I always use the safety eyes,

Simply put Amigurumi is the Japanese name for crocheting dolls, toys and animals, it uses tight stitches and firmly stuffed.

I love the simplicity of the pattern. It is well written and the instructions are very clear. You start at one head, work the body, work the second body and then finish at the second dolls head. (all in 1 Piece) The arms are then made and sewn on. And to complete the dress you are picking up stitches around each dolls waist.
I have made these dolls to look like Elsa and Ana from frozen with matching colours, but the best is to look like Cinderella and she magically becomes the princess.

  1. Love your basic crochet doll. Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us. Looking forward to making some of your others, too.

  2. Thanks for sharing!!! I noticed that a lot of doll patterns require a scalp with the hair color yarn. What difference does it make if the scalp is skin colored, like on this doll?

  3. I have also seen the patterns call for this too. Its not something I have done, however the benefits would be that you may not need to attach so much strands of hair to the dolls head. Perhaps to stop the scalp showing through (But remember even IF you change to the hair color you will still need to be careful of the stuffing becoming more obvious at the partings etc
I am going to be doing a few ways to attach the hair that are quite easy (but not a color change for the hair)

  4. how big is she, a lover the pattern but want to know how big is she

  5. What is the stitch count suppose to be at round 19, 20 and finally At row 35?

Mine I feel is coming out big because row 19 says :sc, 2 sc around. Does this mean increasing every stitch after first or doing sc, 2sc, sc 2sc, etc round?

  6. Greetings, on rounds 27 and 29 it says 2sc, sc in next 11 sts, then 2sc, sc to end. After the 11 sts have been completed will I be doing a 2sc once, and then sc only to the end of the round? Thanks in advance.

  8. I made this doll the other day and it looks great! I have to admit that I'm awful at looking for "finished pattern size will be X" and halfway through the head I started thinking, "Wait... this is going to be BIG." Super easy to follow the pattern, knocked out a great-looking doll in an afternoon. Thank you so much!

  9. I'm new to making dolls and found your pattern. Thank you for taking the time to post it. I absolutely love the look and feel of the doll. Now I am working on making clothes! I'm having so much fun dressing my new dolls that my grand nieces may not be getting them for Christmas.

  10. What size safety eyes do I use for this doll?

  11. So I've finished the body, but I'm kind of confused by the instructions for the leg. Am I supposed to remove the hook, move to the center and start the leg from there? And what do you mean be "chaining 1 across the underneath of the doll's body"?

  12. Rory for your confusion.... continue working around Half width of your doll, as stated, chain,1 to help you join the gap across the dolls body to work around (you are splitting the doll in half to create the leg. (you will work in this chain 1 on either side of the stitch in first round of legs

  13. I'm a "self-taught" make it up as I go crocheter! And, I really struggle to read directions. But, I think I've missed something - it appears the head, body, etc. are "stuffed" with somethiing????? Can you help me out here please?

  14. Yes I use a fibre stuffing I have listed a good toy stiffing in the amazon products shown in the post

  15. Best crochet tutorial and pattern ever. My son has special needs and has very odd interests. I can finally crochet him toys! I used the doll as a Base then freestyled. Thank you

  16. Can i add extra rows to this? I would like it to be atleast 30 inches tall

  17. wow.....this is so cute ....will try this.....thank u so much
